Europe Trip Cost Calculator

This calculator turns the verified ranges from our Europe trip cost guide into a number for your specific trip. It estimates on-the-ground daily costs by region and style, adds round-trip flights from the US, and applies a contingency buffer — the same 10–15% margin we recommend across the site and that underpins our ranking for travel budget contingency planning. Everything it does is documented in the rate table further down, so the estimate is transparent rather than a black box.
Estimate Your Europe Trip Cost
How This Calculator Works
The estimate is built from three transparent parts: a per-person daily on-the-ground cost, round-trip flights, and a contingency buffer. The daily figure covers accommodation, food, local transport, and activities, and it varies by region and travel style using the ranges below (per person, per day). Season then adjusts the on-the-ground total, and flights are added per traveler.
| Region | Budget / day | Mid-range / day | Comfort / day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Western Europe | $90–$130 | $150–$220 | $260–$380 |
| Southern Europe | $70–$110 | $120–$180 | $220–$320 |
| Eastern Europe | $50–$80 | $90–$140 | $160–$240 |
| Northern Europe | $100–$140 | $170–$240 | $280–$400 |
- Season multiplier (on-the-ground costs): low season ×0.9, shoulder ×1.0, peak ×1.2.
- Flights: a round-trip economy fare from the US of $600–$1,000 per traveler, adjusted by season (low ×0.85, shoulder ×1.0, peak ×1.3).
- Contingency buffer: 10% is added to the low end of the range and 15% to the high end, the margin we recommend for the airport transfers, booking fees, and small surprises that travelers most often forget.
These ranges mirror the verified figures in our Europe trip cost guide and 1 month in Europe cost guide. Because the model is published in full, you can sanity-check any result against the source tables rather than trusting a hidden formula. The buffer logic is explained further in our trip budgeting guide.
Sources and Verification

Frequently Asked Questions
The calculator multiplies a per-person daily cost — set by your chosen region and travel style — by your number of days and travelers, adjusts for season, adds round-trip flights from the US, and then applies a 10 to 15 percent contingency buffer. All of the underlying daily ranges are published in the How This Calculator Works section so you can see exactly where the estimate comes from.
It produces a realistic planning range rather than a single guaranteed price, because real costs depend on exact dates, cities, and booking timing. The ranges are based on the same verified 2026 figures used across our Europe cost guides. Use the result as a starting budget, then refine it for your specific route and travel dates.
Yes. It adds a round-trip economy flight from the US per traveler, adjusted for season, on top of the on-the-ground daily costs. You can see the flight portion separately in the category breakdown so you can swap in your own airfare if you already have a quote.
